Runaway Chickens in Our Yard!

Videos — By David on June 9, 2009

These two little lost runaway chickens were wandering around our neighbourhood for a few days, so when they wouldn’t leave our front lawn we decided to catch them and put them in our backyard before they got ran over by a car. There are a lot of holes in our fence though, so they ran away last night but this morning they came back.

Those are the cutest chickens ever! I would get very attached and try to board up the fence. It’s cool that you’re just letting them be free.

I can’t believe those chickens!!! so cool!!!

We actually did become somewhat obsessed with the chickens and patched up our fence holes to contain them, but later we re-thought the whole thing and decided to leave our front gate open. They left yesterday evening so we closed the gate and thought they were gone for good this time (since we assumed our backyard was now chicken proof). But this morning they were in our yard again! We saw one of them flap up on top of our laundry basket, which was over 3ft, but can chickens really fly over a 6ft fence?

If we weren’t going away for the summer we’d definitely keep them for good. I looked into the City of Laredo laws for chickens and found we can have up to six chickens in the yard, so come fall I think we’re going to build a coop and buy us some chicks.

  5. They’re adorable! Feed them lots and lots so they stick around and get big and FAT. Just imagine fresh chicken on that Weber!

I’m a bit squeamish about pet killing but David is all ready! (I have a feeling he’s all talk though and would probably start to whimper if I gave him the go ahead haha)

Hi, great video guys!, and the quality is amazing!, would you mind telling me what kind of camera you use for that?

    thanks!

Thanks! We just use the video mode on our 4 year old Nikon Coolpix 5900, we actually really want to get a better cam one of these days though, something that can shoot in HD.

That video reminds me of Houston. Sometimes I see wild dogs and cats roaming the streets. One time in a high class neighborhood we almost ran into a peacock wandering the road.

  12. Eleanor says:

I love coming back to this one.

  13. chicken says:

You should build a chicken coop and keep them! Fresh eggs for breakfast :)
