Germany: Eating Our Way Through Bavaria

Travel, Videos — By Nicole on August 3, 2009

This summer David and I embarked on a big family trip to Bavaria, with a stop in Austria. If you thought we were brave when we ate cow lips, I assure you the big family trip took a lot more courage. We ate tons of delicious food, drank ridiculous amounts of beer, and now we can’t wait to go back and see the rest of Germany!

I love all of your videos, but this one was special! ;) Germany is definitely a fun place to visit!

BTW: the Romanian minced meat on a grill is called “mititei”. A rough translation would be “small ones”. And yes, “mititei” is plural, cause usually you eat more than one. ;)

  2. Caitlin says:

Amazing! I’ve never been to Germany and you guys make it look great, lots of fun. If only I ate pork!

Am I safe to assume that there will be a part 2 soon of your Greek adventures?

    • Nicole says:

We have hundreds of little videos to go through but our Greece video will be coming shortly!

  3. Valik says:

Hey guys, awesome blog! Very interesting trip to Germany. That jellied pork knuckles looked good. I make the same but without the knuckles. I cook it up with the knuckles and chicken or pork pieces of meat and then take out the knuckles and only leave the meat. Yummy, want some now. Excellent blog, did I already say that?

  4. Catherine says:

What a fun trip! I love those big pretzels. They are so yummy. My in-laws are German but they don’t eat pork. I did not realize how much pork is in the German diet.

Looking forward to the Greece video.

  5. Vincci says:

Great video! I have enough trouble taking photos of everything I eat, let alone take videos! And I’m sure it must take so much work editing all your little videos together. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your travels!

  6. Ryan says:

Extremely entertaining video. The tour of the food in the cities is remarkable. My wife’s father is from Germany, so when I go for the first time I’ll know what to order… Beer!!!

I’m looking forward to seeing the greece video(s).

  7. Barr says:

You guys are a trip! And what a trip Germany looked to be. I would love to tag along with you on what I would deem a beer lovers paradise as well as a food adventurers dream. Great work on the video, I will likely watch it more than once!

    Can’t wait for Greece!

  8. Kathleen says:

Nic, you are the only person I know who would comment on how gross something looks (the slugs) and then think about eating it.

I feel that I really missed out on all the breakfast beers. Can we start this in Canada, please?

    • Nicole says:

I agree! Weissbier should definitely join mimosas and bloody mary’s in the crew of acceptable breakfast drinks in North America… now that David and I have a kitchenaid we are going to try making weisswurst! Breakfast feasts!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Jan says:

What? I am the first german who writes a comment here?

Anyways… I am from Frankfurt in Hessen. Your next trip to Germany should stop here.
    Why? I tell you…

Hessen is known for his delicious traditional foods and different to the bavarian.
Bavaria, especially Munich is only for tourists.

Our specialty is “Apfelwein” which means cider in english.

By the way, your video is very cool. I like it.

    Greeting from Germany

    • Nicole says:

I had the opportunity to try some apfelwein in Germany and it was delicious so if a region is known for specializing in it then I absolutely would love to go there!

  10. Libby says:

Hey nothing wrong with beer for breakfast every once in awhile!

  11. Atiyya says:
