Canadian Thanksgiving in Texas

Videos — By Nicole on October 13, 2009

David and I wanted to celebrate our second Canadian Thanksgiving in Texas by cooking South Texas food.  We smoked a turkey and made fresh corn tamales.  Initially we were somewhat thrown by the flavours because they weren’t at all reminiscent of the Thanksgiving food we are accustomed to; however, now that we have our giant turkey kicking around in the fridge I would have to say its pretty amazing.  Yes I embarrassed myself with how poorly I rolled the tamales (some actually did turn out nicely), but the turkey meat is ridiculously moist and tender… probably the best breast meat I have ever had.  So not a disaster — not even a little!

    Happy Thanksgiving!
We had very traditional food in a non-traditional setting. We loaded up our new little travel trailer (Spud) and headed out to Manning Park for a camping Thanksgiving. We split the turkey (breast and legs) between two little trailer ovens and cooked up all the traditional accompaniments, and then all smushed into the Spud for our feast. It was minus 8C outside so big roaring fires were absolutely required (and lots of wine). Missed having you there!

Your dinner looked good. You know what I missed this Thanksgiving (aside from you, of course ;-) ? The toilet roll and crayon turkey napkin rings and the construction paper turkey that you made that says you give thanks for Mom, Dad, me, and money. Mom had packed these things away and it wasn’t the same without them. We did have stuffing, however, and not the usual recipe. That’s right, you weren’t home so we rebelled and tried NEW stuffing. Tasty…and yet, also not quite the same.

I just tried it on the site and my iphone and it played fine all the way through. Could just have been an internet connection issue when you tried it or perhaps blip.tv (where we host our videos) was having some server issues. Try again and let me know if you’re still having troubles.

  7. Alex Ciobica says:

    It works now. Thanks!
