Offal, Videos — By David on November 5, 2009

Inspired by reading that America has the biggest, juiciest chicken feet in the world we decided to try cooking the tasty — yet annoyingly difficult to eat — dish.

Looks delicious but the mushroom, basil and lemon zest salad looks even better, imo. :P

I’ve been to dim sum restaurants plenty but I’ve never eaten chicken feet. It’s a favorite for my mom and granddad, though!

I’d like to see the recipe list and instructions for all the meals you feature in this blog. I know it’s extra work but I’d like try the stuff you make myself!

    • Nicole says:

The end result did taste really yummy but the steps we took to get there were somewhat disastrous (the deep frying mess) so I’m a bit hesitant to share the recipe. If we come up with something better and a little safer then we will post it though!

  2. awesome post.
when im eating dimsum in texas with the family, we all order our own chicken feet…all 5 of us.
oh and if you eat them with chopsticks its keeps your finger less sticky. :)

    • Nicole says:

Haha yeah sorry for the lack of dining etiquette! All the little bones turned me into a neanderthal apparently. Kinda gruesome!

  3. Eleanor says:

Granny used to put the chicken feet in when she was making soup. They came out bright yellow and very tasty.

  4. Zaw says:

You guys need a splatter guard!

  5. Kathleen says:

Good job dodging burning hot oil in your quest for ever more bizarre eats. My most recent deep-frying experience was just with veggie-friendly pakoras again. They didn’t attack me, but the whole place smelled like a greasy spoon for days after.

  6. riacale says:

one good tip with eating chicken feet is to just chew on the whole thing as much as you can and spit out the small bones!

These are good grilled as well! That could be the new “Laredo” style of cooking them.

  7. Helen says:

I love coming here just to see what strange food you you dare to eat next. I also am no stranger to chicken feet.

  8. Nolto says:

It’s been almost a month. Did you two stop eating?

    • David says:

We’ve been living off tree bark and wasp nests for the past month, but a new video is done and should be posted up tomorrow!

  9. Vince says:

They made the mistake of not using a cast-iron skillet to deep-fry the feet, hence the grease splattering. :)

Looks like a delicious dish, but perhaps, would have been better with a dipping sauce, like honey-mustard instead. :)
